Bill Belisle was a legendry Mount St. Charles College men’s hockey coach who prompted the Mounties to 32 state championships.  He served as the head coach for the catholic college for over four decades.

He graduated from MSC in 1948 and took over as head coach in 1975. During his tenure, Belisle amassed 1,000 victories and led the Mounties to 32 state titles, including 26 in a row.

Belisle, a member of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame, has had more than 20 of his players drafted by the NHL and many more go on to become coaches.

According to MSC, more than 20 players coached by Belisle have been drafted into the NHL. MSC described Belisle as the core and heart of the school’s hockey program on social media Wednesday night.

He was appointed to the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018. He also has a son Dave Belisle, who is Mount hockey coach.

Belisle took retirement from Hockey after he coached his final game in February 2019.

His death news was announced by the official page of Mount St. Charles Academy on Facebook. They expressed their deep grief and sorrow towards his death and pray for his entire family to endure the pain caused by his loss.

“I remember Bill as a student who progressed to teacher and then to coach when I returned to Mount as president,” MSC President Alan Trello said.

“He was always there as a tutor, an outstanding usher to students, staff, family, and friends.” The world has lost one of its greatest personalities and coaches, and Mount will be mourned for decades.”
