Anne-Marie is an English singer and songwriter, who works in genres spanning from pop to hip hop. She is known for being featured on Clean Bandit’s worldwide hit “Rockabye” with Sean Paul. Anne-Marie trained in Shotokan karate from a young age. She has won Double Gold in the 2002 Funakoshi World Championships, Gold and Silver in the 2007 Funakoshi World Championships, and Gold in the U.K. Traditional Karate Federation National Championships.

Her father, Wayne Nicholson, is from east London. Her mother, Susan, is from Essex. They are pictured here.

Anne-Marie has stated that a DNA test showed her to be, along with English, “three percent Irish, five percent Scottish, [and] a little bit Scandinavian.”

Reports that her father is from Ireland are not correct.

Anne-Marie’s maternal grandfather is James R. “Jim” Thompson (the son of Archibald Abel “Archie” Thompson and Agnes Mary Adson). James was born in Orsett, Essex, England. The surname Thompson is of Scottish origin. Agnes was the daughter of Thomas Adson and Agnes Wilby.

Anne-Marie’s maternal grandmother was Rose Edna Nunn (the daughter of Ernest Edward Nunn and Ivy Kate Palmer). Rose was born in Brentwood, Essex, England. Ernest was the son of John Thomas Nunn and Selina Coleman. Ivy was the daughter of Charles Palmer and Lilly Riseborough.

Anne-Marie’s matrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her sixth great-grandmother, Sarah Alborough.
